鳃病一种是被细菌侵蚀鳃丝，病鱼行动迟缓，食欲不振，体色暗淡无光泽，头部发乌，鳃丝发白，最后出现腐烂脱落；鳍盖骨表皮充血发炎，严重时也发生腐烂，露出透明的鳃盖骨。另有一种是被寄生虫寄生引起的鳃病，有细菌侵蚀鳃丝类似症状，如游动缓慢，鱼体消瘦，体色暗淡，呼吸困难，常浮于水面。鳃丝发白、破坏，粘液增多，鳍盖半张等。寄生虫有车轮虫、指环虫、口丝虫、斜管虫、三代虫等。细菌性烂鳃病用呋喃西林治疗。寄生虫鳃病用高锰酸钾、福尔马林、食盐等治疗。
另外水质污染和污物等也能引起对虾黑鳃病。
