在台湾东部花莲县城西南约12公里。东有海拔601米的鲤鱼山，西有海拔1.484米的铜门山。面积约100公顷，水深约8米，水面海拔135米，为台湾东部最大天然湖。因溪流改道形成。风景优美，可以钓鱼、泛舟。池北约2公里为木瓜溪，建有铜门水电站和龙涧水电站。
