高庙位于中卫城北，接连城墙的高台上。始建于明永乐年间，称“新庙”。清康熙四十八年（公元1710年）秋，因地震坍塌重建，后经道光二年、咸丰三年、光绪八年续建，改称“玉皇阁”。民国初年增建后，改称“高庙”，建筑面积达2510平方米，是一处造型完整、气魄壮美的古建筑群。
