髋关节为杵臼关节，周围有坚韧的韧带以及强大的肌肉瓣保护，因而十分稳定。只有在间接暴力的作用下，才会通过韧带之间的薄弱区脱位。多为青壮年，在劳动中或车祸时遭受强大暴力的冲击而致伤。股骨头脱位出位于Nelaton线之后者为后脱位；位于其前者为前脱位。扭转、杠杆或传导暴力均可引起。而传导暴力使股骨头撞击髋臼底部，向骨盆内脱出则属于中心脱位。
