风井是矿井专门用于通风的井筒。进入新风的井为进风井；排出污风的井为出风井。每个井田设置的风井数目，与采用的通风系统及风井布置方式有关，每个通风系统至少要有一个进风井和一个出风井。进风井可以是罐笼井、串车提升的斜井、斜坡道或主平硐，也可采用专用进风井。出风井一般为专用井筒，断面多数为圆形；直径一般为3~5m。
