露天矿 是把覆盖在矿体上部及其周围的浮土和围岩剥去,把废石运到排土场,从敞露的矿体上直接采掘矿石。当矿体埋藏较浅或地表有露头时,应用露天开采比地下开采优越。剥去上部岩土的工作称为剥离。剥离岩土量与采出矿石量的比例称为剥采比,剥采比过大的露天矿,露天开采成本高,应改用地下开采的方法。露天开采的具有一定开采境界的采掘矿石的独立生产经营单位。根据露天矿的运输方式,分为铁路运输开拓,公路运输开拓,平硐溜井开拓,斜坡卷扬(提升)开拓及胶带运输开拓。
