超冷却的降水碰到温度等于或低于零摄氏度的物体表面时所形成玻璃状的透明或无光泽的表面粗糙的冰覆盖层，叫做雨凇。俗称“树挂”，也叫冰凌、树凝，形成雨凇的雨称为冻雨。我国南方把冻雨叫做“下冰凌”、“天凌”或“牛皮凌”。《春秋》载：成公十六年（公元前575年）十有六年春、王正月、雨木冰。这则记载的意思是： 鲁成公十六年春天、周历正月、下雨、树木枝条上凝聚了雨冰（就是“雨凇”）。这是世界上对雨凇的较早记载。
