集中运输是指由一个汽车运输部门(企业)负责将同一种产品或某几种产品，从一个发货点运往若干收货点，或从若干收货点运往一个发货点的一种货物运输组织方式。承担集中运输的单位，可能是专业汽车运输部门，也可能是按行业或系统组织起来的汽车运输部门。实行汽车集中运输可加强货运工作计划，有利于统一调度车辆，加强货源管理，减少车辆空驶，加强车辆周转，改善运输质量，提高经济效益。1951年苏联莫斯科在砖块运输中首次实行。I960年前后，中国在北京、上海等地也开展了集中运输，并在各地逐渐推广，取得了很好的效果。
