镇赉县位于吉林省西北部、白城市东北部，地理坐标为东经122°47′06.3 ′—124°04′33.7 ′，北纬45°28′14.3′—46°18′15.8′。县境东靠嫩江与黑龙江省杜尔伯特蒙古族自治县、肇源县隔江相望，西连内蒙古自治区科尔沁右翼前旗，北与黑龙江省泰来县、内蒙古自治区扎赉特旗接壤，南和西南分别与大安市、洮南市、洮北区为邻。截止2012年，镇赉县幅员面积4737平方公里，人口29.5万 。 2010年11月，中国野生动物保护协会授予镇赉县“中国白鹤之乡”荣誉称号。
