重男轻女，是社会一种认为男女不平等的观念，重视男性的权利，而把女性定性为男性的附属，并限制她们发展个人才能的机会。但另一方面，女性也被视为较为弱小，因此她们在某些范畴上要负的责任比男性少。这种观念常见于父权社会，常伴随着男尊女卑和性别分工的观念。 重男轻女的观念也会影响父母对生男生女的意愿，例如中国上古的卜辞里就视生男为“嘉”，生女为 “不嘉”。
