造父，嬴姓，赵氏始祖。造父祖先大费（伯益）为白帝少昊裔孙，伯益被帝舜赐姓嬴，造父为伯益的十四世孙。初为嬴姓，周穆王时为驾车大夫。后受周穆王封于赵城（今山西洪洞），遂以赵为氏。周穆王于公元前976年—前923年在位，造父应属同时期人。 古有传说：造父为助周穆王平徐偃王乱，驭八匹千里马载周穆王，自中原昆仑丘（今王屋山一带）西王母处返回，一日千里。后造父以此功受封赵城。
