连续光谱是指光（辐射）强度随频率变化呈连续分布的光谱。根据量子理论，原子、分子可处于一系列分立的状态。两个态间的跃迁产生光谱线。每个光谱线系趋于一个短波极限，波长短于这个极限就出现一个光谱的连续区（见原子光谱）。这个极限称线系限。从线系限位置起，连续区的强度很快地下降，这个连续区是连续光谱。
