边缘坳陷（marginal deep）又称前渊（forodeep），是伴随地槽褶皱隆起，在它与地台交界地带形成的大型坳陷。其内部结构通常是不对称的，并为独特的沉积建造（近海含煤建造、磨拉石建造、含盐建造）所充填。岩浆活动不明显。在发展过程中其坳陷中心逐渐向地台方向迁移。
