贝壳低圆锥形、低圆锥形到平旋，胎壳逆旋，脐孔广阔。壳表通常有独特的螺旋雕刻。口盖角质，内侧有小柄。 壳表褐色斑较多，有多条螺沟，壳底脐孔色泽淡。有时也称“螺旋梯螺”。在扁平的圆形贝壳底面阶梯般的折褶，环绕着又宽又深的大脐孔。壳径约7cm，是常见的品种。
上紧特殊工具，即可将车轮螺桩推出轮毂及轴承组件。自螺桩取下凸缘螺帽并自凸缘取出车轮螺桩。
