趋同是指两种或两种以上亲缘关系甚远的生物，由于栖居于同一类型的环境之中，从而演化成具有相似的形态特征或构造的现象。 不同的生物，无亲缘的种，在进化上相距甚远的生物，如果生活在条件相同的环境中，在同样选择压(选择压是指在2个相对性状之间，一个性状被选择而生存下来的优势，或者说，在2个基因频率之间，一个比另一个更能生存下来的优势)的作用下，有可能产生功能相同或十分相似的形态结构，以适应相同的条件。
