超电位(over potential)是指电流通过电极时，电极电位偏离平衡电位的差值，也称过电压，是电极极化程度的一种量度。对于阴极反应，如果流过阴极的电流密度大于其交换电流密度，则金属不能立刻在阴极上还原，导致阴极表面自由离子增加，阴极电位就会负移，产生电化学超电位，或者称为活化过电位。
