试验机，广义说，就是一种产品或材料在投入使用前，对其质量或性能按设计要求进行验证的仪器。从定义可以看出，凡是对于质量或性能进行验证的仪器都可以叫做试验机。 试验机的产品在不断创新、改进、完善，可以适应检测材料的各种性能。试验机主要是用于测量材料或产品的物理性能，比如:钢材的屈服强度、抗拉强度，抗冲击韧性、等。用于测量材料的化学性能的也就是化学成分，一般叫分析仪，不叫试验机。
