装饰工程是用建筑材料及其制品或用雕塑、绘画等装饰性艺术品，对建筑物室内外进行装潢和修饰的工作总称。装饰工程包括室内外抹灰工程、饰面安装工程和玻璃、油漆、粉刷、裱糊工程三大部分。具体内容如下页表所示：装饰工程不仅能增加建筑物的美观和艺术形象，且有隔热、隔音、防潮的作用。还可以保护墙面，提高围护结构的耐久性。装饰工程的施工特点是工程量大，材料品种繁多，占的工期长，耗用的劳动量多。一般民用建筑中，平均每平方米的建筑面积就有3～5平方米的内抹灰，有0.15～0.75平方米的外抹灰;其劳动量占总劳动量的25～30%;工期占总工期的30～40%，装饰要求高的约占总工期的50%以上。为此，应大力开展技术革新，改进操作工艺，实现机械化施工。装饰材料的改进对装饰工程的施工起很大的作用，应大力发展新型的装饰材料，尽可能减少湿作业，以加快施工速度和降低劳动量消耗。
