袋貂是泛指双门齿目下袋貂亚目（Phalangeriformes）下的物种，包括澳洲有袋类近半数的种，显著的特征是只有一对门齿，后肢的第二、三趾愈合，看似一个脚趾长了两个爪子。袋貂亚目包括了一些外表和习性相差比较远的动物，现存的成员可以袋貂总科和袋鼯总科两大类。袋貂是袋貂科的代表动物，分布在澳大利亚以及新西兰等地。一般栖息在森林或者草丛中，以植物为主要食物。
