是指在一个人身上经常发生的、可以直接观察到的行为表现。是与根源特质相对应的概念。最初是由美国心理学家卡特尔提出的。表面特质反映了人格表现的外部行为特征,通过一个人的言行就可了解到某人的表面特质。在与根源特质的关系上,表面特质是根源特质的外在表现。如某人办事敏捷、泼辣大胆、遇事从容,这些表面特质可能都是根源特质——果断性的外在行为表现。
