蒸腾流是指由根向上的水流,即由于蒸腾作用而引起的上升液流。它可流动到叶的尖端及周缘,以不断补充从叶面蒸腾流进行调节。蒸腾流从清晨到日出后迅速加大,傍晚时液流变缓。由于蒸腾作用而引起的上升液流能使溶解在水里的各种矿质盐类进入植物体内,并分布到植物体的各部位去。
