荧光分析法是指利用某些物质被紫外光照射后处于激发态，激发态分子经历一个碰撞及发射的去激发过程所发生的能反映出该物质特性的荧光，可以进行定性或定量分析的方法。由于有些物质本身不发射荧光（或荧光很弱），这就需要把不发射荧光的物质转化成能发射荧光的物质。例如用某些试剂（如荧光染料），使其与不发射荧光的物质生成络合物，各种络合物能发射荧光，再进行测定。因此荧光试剂的使用，对一些原来不发荧光的无机物质和有机物质进行荧光分析打开了大门，扩展了分析的范围。
