荧光分光光度计是用于扫描液相荧光标记物所发出的荧光光谱的一种仪器。其能提供包括激发光谱、发射光谱以及荧光强度、量子产率、荧光寿命、荧光偏振等许多物理参数，从各个角度反映了分子的成键和结构情况。通过对这些参数的测定， 不但可以做一般的定量分析, 而且还可以推断分子在各种环境下的构象变化， 从而阐明分子结构与功能之间的关系。荧光分光光度计的激发波长扫描范围一般是190~650nm，发射波长扫描范围是200~800nm。可用于液体、固体样品（如凝胶条）的光谱扫描。
