苯二甲酸是一种白色针状结晶或粉末。可燃。低毒。该品绝大部分用于生产聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯（聚酯），是聚酯纤维、薄膜、塑料制品、绝缘漆及增塑剂的重要原料，也用于医药、染料及其他产品的生产。
但胶料中若使用 松焦油 ( Pine Tar )作软化剂或以苯二甲酸(Phthalic Acid) 作为抑止剂均对黏结有阻碍作用，须配合用像Hexa-K之延迟性促进剂对黏结效果较好。
