船舶载重量，通常是指船舶在夏季满载吃水时允许装载可变载荷的最大值。包括载货量、人员及其行李、粮食、淡水、燃料、润滑油、锅炉水、供应品等的重量，但不包括固定压载、备件和管系中的液体、给水及锅炉和冷凝器中的水以及液舱中不能排出的残液，这些都计入空船重量中。因此，载重量实际上是船舶夏季满载排水量与空船重量的差值。
