胸主动脉夹层动脉瘤是主动脉血流通过内膜破裂处进入主动脉壁，在主动脉壁内形成血肿，血肿扩大时，将主动脉壁中层剥离成为内、外两层，称为主动脉夹层动脉瘤。主动脉夹层动脉瘤的发病率，每年每百万人口为5～10例。男女之比为3：1，发病年龄大多数在40岁以上。
