胚芽鞘(coleoptile)为单子叶植物所特有,特别是禾本科植物胚芽外的锥形套状物,是一个鞘状结构。胚芽鞘是植物叶片的保护组织,有保护胚芽中更幼小的叶和生长锥的作用,胚芽鞘还有一个很重要的作用就是顶土能力强,种子在种植的较深的情况下,也能顶土出芽。注:胚芽鞘不是植物的叶片。
