具有一定强度的各种致伤因素都可以引起胃损伤。然而，由于胃在腹腔内处于受保护的解剖位置，并能在腹腔中一定范围内移动，所以因外界暴力而致伤的机会不多。如受伤，亦常伴有腹腔内其他脏器的损伤。胃镜检查及吞入锐利异物也可引起穿孔，但较少见。胃损伤的直接后果是胃瘘，虽很少见但却是极为严重的并发症。
