是防止肿瘤的一种措施。在选定地区，对男性30岁以上，女性25岁以上者，进行全面体格检查，发现可疑者在做进一步复查，对发现的癌前期病变或癌症病员进行及时治疗。一般常选择一种或几种当地比较突出的癌症进行重点普查，如食管癌、肺癌、肝癌、胃癌以及子宫颈癌普查等。肿瘤普查检测所用的方法应简便、准确（敏感并特异）、经济和易为受检者所接受。普查是一个大规模的人群检查，所以采用的方法必须尽量简便、易于操作，甚至一些经过培训的非专业人员亦能掌握。准确的要求包括肿瘤应被检出、非肿瘤不致误认和检测的结果可以重复。
