肾上腺髓质增生是一种自主性儿茶酚胺分泌过多的独立病症。以女性为多见，发病年龄多为青壮年，年龄平均为39岁（24～49岁），与嗜铬细胞瘤相似。另外，病程较长，有时病状可长时期无发展。
