耐火粘土 是指耐火度大于1580℃、可做耐火材料的粘土和用作耐火材料的铝土矿。它们除具有较高的耐火度外，在高温条件下能保持体积的稳定性，并具有抗渣性、对急冷急热的抵抗性，以及一定的机械强度，因此经煅烧后异常坚定。耐火粘土主要用于冶金工业，作为生产定型耐火材料（各种规格的砖材）和不定型耐火材料的原料，用量约占全部耐火材料的70%。
