网状带紧靠髓质的结构，细胞排列成不规则的条索状，交织成网。细胞较束状带的小，胞核亦小，染色深，胞质弱嗜酸性。含有少量脂滴和较多脂褐素。电镜下，此带细胞内含有大量滑面内质网。此带细胞分泌雄激素，但分泌量较少，在生理情况下意义不大。肾上腺可以分泌糖皮质激素，过多的糖皮质激素会导致脸部的肥胖，不过只要能调节肾上腺素就能调节糖皮质激素。
从这里可以看到从胶囊向内的两个肾上腺皮质区：肾小球状带和网状带。
