缺血性脑卒中是指由于脑的供血动脉（颈动脉和椎动脉）狭窄或闭塞、脑供血不足导致的脑组织坏死的总称。有四种类型的脑缺血：短暂性脑缺血发作（TIA）；可逆性神经功能障碍（RIND）；进展性卒中（SIE）；完全性卒中（CS）。TIA无脑梗死存在，而RIND、SIE和CS有不同程度的脑梗死存在。
