所谓“释放”是指养分由化学物质转变成植物可直接吸收利用的有效形态的过程(如溶解、水解、降解等);“缓释”是指化学物质养分释放速率远小于速溶性肥料施入土壤后转变为植物有效态养分的释放速率;“控释”是指以各种调控机制使养分释放按照设定的释放模式(释放率和释放时间)与作物吸收养分的规律相一致。因此,生物或化学作用下可分解的有机氮化合物(如脲甲醛UFs)肥料通常被称为缓释肥(SRFs),而对生物和化学作用等因素不敏感的包膜肥料通常被称为控释肥(CRFs)。
