又名红性,是指外部受热升温时工具钢仍能维持高硬度（大于 60 HRC）的功能，现在就温和型的度数。红硬性是指材料在经过一定温度下保持一定时间后所能保持其硬度的能力。如刀具材料中的高速钢，应在600摄氏度下保持60分钟后空冷，连续地重复进行4次后去表面氧化层，然后得出的硬度。为保证高速钢的红硬性 ,必须加入W、Mo、Cr、V等碳化物形成元素。
