粤北指广东省北部地区，包括梅州、河源、清远、韶关、云浮五个地级市所管辖的范围。 粤北地处粤、赣、湘、桂四省（区）的结合部，东北面越过大庚岭是江西省的赣州地区，北面与湖南郴州市和永州市接壤，西面是广西壮族自治区的贺州市。粤北汉语方言十分复杂，除了广泛分布的客家话外，尚有归属未明的“粤北土话”（《中国语言地图集》称为“韶州土话”）及粤语、闽南方言岛和西南官话。 粤北是客家人的主要聚居地之一，直至现在，仍有 80%左右的人的母语是客家话，大多数人也认同客家文化。
