等温退火是用来代替完全退火和不完全退火的新的退火方法，是以较快的速度冷却到A1以下某一温度，保温一定时间使奥氏体转变为珠光体组织，然后空冷,处理后所得到的组织和性能彼此也很相似，但是处理所需要的时间，常常可以大大缩短。 由于钢的成分的不同，退火的目的不同。其处理方法也往往不同。常用的有所谓完全退火、不完全退火、扩散退火、球化退火、消除应力退火等。
