空气阀是一种用于防止瞬变过程减压波使管内产生负压的特殊阀门。它通常装设在管道正常运行时动水压力较低，瞬变流动过程中，有可能产生液柱分离的高点位置。当管道内压力低于大气压时吸入空气，而当管道中压力上升高于大气压时排出空气。在排气过程中，当管内液体充满管道时阀门能够自动关闭，不允许液体泄入大气。
