离心沉降是利用混合物各组分的质量不同，采用离心旋转产生离心力大小的差别，使粕末下沉而液体上升，达到清洁混合物的目的的方法。
但由于微生物菌体颗粒很小，沉降非常慢，故要提供离心场，来 加速沉降速度，称为离心沉降(centrifugal sedimentation)，亦即离心沉降是利用离 心力及物质密度不同的一项分离技术。
