神经衰弱（neurasthenia）在中国属于神经症的诊断之一。是由于长期处于紧张和压力下，出现精神易兴奋和脑力易疲乏现象，常伴有情绪烦恼、易激惹、睡眠障碍、肌肉紧张性疼痛等；这些症状不能归于脑、躯体疾病及其他精神疾病。症状时轻时重，波动与心理社会因素有关，病程多迁延。近世纪，神经衰弱的概念经历了一系列变迁，随着医生对神经衰弱认识的变化和各种特殊综合征和亚型的分出，在美国和西欧已不作此诊断，CCMD-3工作组的现场测试证明，在我国神经衰弱的诊断也明显减少。
