磁各向异性是指物质的磁性随方向而变的现象。主要表现为弱磁体的磁化率及铁磁体的磁化曲线随磁化方向而变。铁磁体的磁各向异性尤为突出，是铁磁体的基本磁性之一，表示饱和（或自发）磁化在不同晶体方向时自由能密度不同。磁各向异性来源于磁晶体的各向异性。 如果分子中具有多重键或共轭多重键，在外磁场作用下，π电子会沿着分子的某一方向流动，它对邻近的质子附加一个各向异性的磁场，使某些位置的质子处于该基团的屏蔽区，δ值移向高场，而另一些位置的质子处于该集团的去屏蔽区，δ值移向低场，这种现象称为磁各向异性效应。
