磁性材料按照磁化后去磁的难易程度，可分为软磁性材料和硬磁性材料。磁化后容易去掉磁性的物质叫软磁材料，不容易去磁的物质叫硬磁材料。一般来讲软磁性材料剩磁较小，硬磁性材料剩磁较大。
硬磁材料（hard magnetic material）是在磁场中磁化后还能保留磁性的材料，而软磁材料在磁化后磁性容易消失。
