硒半胱氨酸是一种氨基酸，存在于少数一些酶中，如谷胱甘肽过氧化酶、甲状腺素5'-脱碘酶、硫氧还蛋白还原酶、甲酸脱氢酶、甘氨酸还原酶和一些氢化酶等。硒半胱氨酸的结构和半胱氨酸类似，只是其中的硫原子被硒取代。包含硒半胱氨酸残基的蛋白都称为硒蛋白。
