气体分子本身占有容积，分子与分子间有相互作用力存在的实际气体称为真实气体。真实气体不服从理想气体定律。天然气是真实气体。 真实气体也称实际气体。严格讲，热机所用的各种气态工质都是实际气体，不完全符合PV=RT（P、V、T和R分别代表气体的压力、比体积、温度和气体常数）的关系，只是有些气体在一定条件下可按理想气体作近似处理，以简化问题，但对一些性质偏离理想气体较远的气体，如水蒸气，仍必须按实际气体对待。
