直接责任，“间接责任”的对称。是指民事主体对自己不法行为依法应直接承担的民事责任。根据现代各国民法中的“自己责任原则”，任何有行为能力人均应直接承受自己行为的后果；谁的行为造成不法侵害，就由谁承担民事责任。但这一基本原则又受到各国法中监护制度、代理制度、连带责任制度和其他法律制度的限制。由此形成直接责任与间接责任并列的法制状况。根据不同国家的法律，与不法行为人有特定联系的当事人可负有无条件的替代责任，先行偿付责任和补充责任等，学理上称之为间接责任。
