CD盘片分CD—R、CDRW等；DVD盘片分DVD+R、DVD—R、DVD+RW、DVD—RW、DVD—RAM等。CD盘片的原文名字为Compact Disc，是压缩盘片之意。它将各式各样的资料（影像、音乐、动话与文字）以压缩方式转成数字码来储存，目前的主要厂商有SONY、BenQ、Maxcell等。
