疟疾是经按蚊叮咬或输入带疟原虫者的血液而感染疟原虫所引起的虫媒传染病。寄生于人体的疟原虫共有四种，即间日疟原虫，三日疟原虫，恶性疟原虫和卵形疟原虫。在我国主要是间日疟原虫和恶性疟原虫；其他二种少见，近年偶见国外输入的一些病例。不同的疟原虫分别引起间日疟、三日疟、恶性疟及卵圆疟。本病主要表现为周期性规律发作，全身发冷、发热、多汗，长期多次发作后，可引起贫血和脾肿大。 2017年10月27日，世界卫生组织国际癌症研究机构公布的致癌物清单初步整理参考，疟疾（高度流行地区恶性疟原虫感染引起的）在2A类致癌物清单中。
