是利用需氧微生物对污水或有有机性废水进行生物氧化处理的方法。以淬石、焦炭、矿渣或人工滤衬等作为先填层，然后将污水以点滴状喷洒在上面，并充分供给氧气和营养，此时在滤材表面生成一层凝胶状生物膜（细菌类、原生动物、藻类、茵类等），当污水沿此膜流下时，污水中的可溶性、胶性和悬浮性物质吸附在生物膜上而被微生物氮化分解。为使生物滤池有效地处理污水：（1）微生物的繁殖，必需有足够的表面积。（2）必需充分供给微生物氧气。（3）污水需具有适于生物处理的水质。生物滤池法有标准滤池法和高速生物滤池法两种方式。
