物理治疗是康复治疗的主体，它使用包括声、光、冷、热、电、力（运动和压力）等物理因子进行治疗，针对人体局部或全身性的功能障碍或病变，采用非侵入性、非药物性的治疗来恢复身体原有的生理功能。物理治疗是现代与传统医学中的非常重要的一份子。物理治疗可以分为两大类，一类是以功能训练和手法治疗为主要手段，又称为运动治疗或运动疗法；另一类是以各种物理因子（声、光、冷、热、电、磁、水等）为主要手段，又称为理疗。
