焉耆盆地位于新疆塔里木盆地东北侧,是天山山脉中的一个山间盆地,面积约1.3万平方公里,因盆地中的焉耆县而得名。焉耆盆地,是天山主脉与其支脉之间的中生代断陷盆地,东西长170公里,南北宽80公里,面积约13000平方公里。由西北向东南倾斜,边缘海拔1200米左右,最低博斯腾湖湖面为1047米。
